Xiaomi introduces its latest flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, in China, featuring impressive photography specs and innovative accessories. The device, boasting a large one-inch-type sensor and various photography tricks, aims to set new standards in mobile photography.

Photography Features and Pricing

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra stands out with its main camera, equipped with a Sony LYT-900 one-inch-type sensor. Notable photography features include a variable aperture with 1,024 stops between f/1.63 and f/4.0. Prices for the smartphone start at ¥6,499 (around $904) for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, reaching ¥7,799 (around $1,084) for 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. A special-edition titanium model is also available for ¥8,799 (around $1,224).

International Launch Plans

While the initial release details are for the Chinese market, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun confirms the international debut of the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. The smartphone will be showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, alongside the Xiaomi 14 that launched in China in October. However, it’s expected that the handsets will be available in Europe without an official US release.

Photography Kit and Accessories

Emphasizing its photography credentials, Xiaomi reintroduces the photography kit for the 14 Ultra. The kit includes a camera grip and shutter release button, enhancing the smartphone’s photography capabilities. The grip, connecting via USB-C, features an additional 1,500mAh battery and customizable controls for adjusting aperture, shutter speed, or ISO.

Camera Setup and Specifications

The Xiaomi 14 Ultra boasts a sophisticated camera setup with a 50-megapixel one-inch-type sensor as the primary camera. Additional cameras include a telephoto with 3.2x optical zoom, a periscope with 5x optical zoom, and an ultrawide with a 122-degree field of view. The cameras are housed within a large circular camera bump, distinguishing it from the 14 and 14 Pro models.

Hardware and Display

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, the 14 Ultra shares similarities with the 14 and 14 Pro in terms of screen specs. The 6.73-inch display offers a resolution of 1440p, with a maximum refresh rate and peak brightness of 120Hz and 3,000 nits, respectively. The device is IP68 rated for dust and water resistance.

Battery Capacity and Charging

One notable advantage the 14 Ultra has over the 14 Pro is its larger battery capacity, rated at 5,300mAh. While the maximum fast charging speed is listed at 90W (compared to 120W for the 14 Pro), the device supports fast wireless charging at up to 80W.

As Xiaomi gears up for the international launch at the Mobile World Congress, consumers anticipate learning more about the Xiaomi 14 Ultra’s performance and how it stands out in the competitive smartphone market.
